Screen Ghosting & Motion Blur Test

Test monitor pixel response times, ghosting trails, and motion blur with pursuit patterns. Animates high-contrast objects across the screen at user-selected pixel speeds to expose panel response time lag and overdrive trailing.

Motion Blur & Ghosting Simulator

960 px/sec

What to look for: Follow the moving vertical blocks with your eyes. If you see dark trailing streaks behind the blocks, your monitor has slow pixel response time (ghosting). If you see bright pale halos, your monitor's pixel overdrive setting is too aggressive (inverse ghosting / overshoot).

How to use this test

  1. Select animation speed (e.g. 480 px/sec or 960 px/sec).
  2. Observe trailing edge behind moving graphic.
  3. Check for black trails (ghosting) or bright white halos (inverse overdrive overshoot).
  4. Adjust monitor Overdrive in monitor physical menu.

How to understand your result

Looks good: Objects move crisply with minimal blurring or trailing.
Issue observed: Prominent dark trails or bright overshoot halos follow moving objects.

Troubleshooting: what to try next

  • Access monitor physical OSD menu and adjust Overdrive from 'Extreme' to 'Normal' if overshoot occurs.

What this test cannot tell you
